Everything You Need To Know About Prayer Can Be Learned From A Kid
Kids will say some of the most interesting things. Sometimes it makes you cringe, sometimes it makes you want to laugh and sometimes you are just left speechless. But, when it comes to prayer, I am often in awe of what children will say to God.
I have the awesome privilege of working with children – at home, of course, and at church. Some of the most amazing experiences I have in these roles come when I pray with children.
Kids may say the darnedest things at the worst possible moments; but, I have also heard them say some of the most
I Didn’t Know Raising Children Meant Training Parrots
Before I had children, I had grand ideas of what I would teach my children, how they would respond, and the blissful life that we would have together. However, there are three things that I forgot to take into account.
First, I don’t know everything that my kids need to know and that I need to teach them. Second, I know (e.g. say and do) way too many things that I don’t want my kids to know (e.g. say and do). And third, I didn’t know raising children meant training parrots! I didn’t know that they would repeat everything I say and do.
Raising Parrots
It all starts out simply enough. In fact, it is usually really cute (is ‘cute’ okay for a guy to say?). Think about a baby mimicking a smile or a toddler repeating a funny sound, word or phrase. read more

Today is a bittersweet day. The day represents the culmination of months of effort and anticipation. It has been a great week and it has been a long week. It has been an adrenaline rush. Everyone is tired and yet energized. There is some relief that we are drawing to a close; but, I would do it all again next week, and the week after, in a heartbeat!

Talking To God Changes Things
We have definitely learned that prayer is a powerful tool that God has given us to use. In fact, we have a phrase that we use often with the kids: Talking To God Changes Things. This helps us to remember that prayer is simply a conversation with God and that it has the power to change what happens.
Impactful Worship
The worship all week has been incredible and today saw the impact become even greater…children worshipping, not because it is what everyone else is doing, but because they want to connect with the One True God! read more

Giant Panda Cookies
We had several friends bless us this morning with cookies of all types. A definite God Sighting for us. This picture shows a couple of those cookies – although, I think I would call them more of a work of art (not to be left as art…they sure were yummy)!
Smelly Dark Places

Why I Told My Children to Stop Saying “Sorry”
You are too loud. Sorry. You spilled your grape juice on the carpet in the room you were not supposed to have drinks in. Sorry. You hurt your brother when you hit him. Sorry. You took that without permission. Sorry. You broke the window. Sorry. You lied to me. Sorry.

The list could go on and on. You probably have similar stories. Your child does something wrong, makes a mistake, either by accident or intention, and then simply says “sorry” to atone for the problem.
That’s the right thing to do, isn’t it? Yes; but, no. read more
The Power Of A Praying Kid
We know that praying is important. We want our kids to experience life-changing prayer. But how to we teach our kids to pray – especially when we feel a bit lacking in our own prayer life?
The Power of a Praying Kid by Stormie Omartian is a book written for kids and provides a foundation for helping kids address some tough areas of life. An introduction, written for parents, sets the stage telling us that a child’s prayers are just as powerful as an adults because it is all God’s power. Kids just need to know that God is real, will listen, and will answer our prayers. The author also reminds us of Jesus’ heart for children and states that “you never know when you might need a prayer as powerful, pure, and faith-filled as a child’s.”
