Jesus, Like No Other

As I sat down to write, I asked the question “do I have anything inspiring to say for Easter”.  Instead of a really great thought, my mind went blank, I didn’t have anything to say, I was at a loss for words.  Then, I had one of those big ‘duh!’ moments.  What could be more inspiring for this week than the man that sits at the core of what this weekend is really about!

Jesus_heartWe spend our church lives learning about Jesus – sometimes to the point where we begin to gloss over the incredibleness, the awe, that is found in the life of the Jewish carpenter.  A friend of mine made a comment to me today, “Jesus’ brothers couldn’t believe that Jesus was the Messiah – after all, they had heard all of the bodily functions that come from lowly common people – such things surely couldn’t come from the King of Kings.”  Then, I began to think about the journey of Jesus, the essence of who he was and is…

Jesus, a baby born out of wedlock (deplorable even then) and made to sleep where animals eat.  Jesus, a boy who probably skipped rocks in the lake, played in the mud, and was probably told from time to time to stop running with scissors (ok, maybe not the scissors thing).  Jesus, a young man who spoke with wisdom and knowledge beyond his years – yet, respected the authorities in his life.  Jesus, a servant of people and worked with his hands to earn a living.  Jesus, a leader that inspired people to give up everything they had just to follow him.  Jesus, a provider – remember the miracles like feeding the thousands of people from mere morsels of food.  Jesus, healer of sickness, disease and even death.  Jesus, a target of insults because he cared for those that most people would overlook.  Jesus, a target of persecution because he challenged the teachings of the religious leaders.  Jesus, a messenger of hope which would come through his own sacrifice.  Jesus, branded a criminal because he forgave sins.  Jesus, a sufferer of pain and torture that really did not belong to him.  Jesus, The Son of God who set all authority, power, and privilege aside to become like us so that we can become like him.  Jesus.

Jesus went through a life-time of trials and hard-ships that he did not have to go through.  He faced abuse and torture that we would not desire even for most of our enemies.  Jesus holds more power in his little pinky than, well, more than anything we could come close to imagining – by a breath, everything we know was created!  And this all-powerful being, that we cannot come close to comprehending, has shown that he loves us!  Us – not confined to kings, leaders of the world, and perfect people. Us – common, ordinary and everyday people.  Jesus, the awe-inspiring creator and savior, wants to hang with us.  Wow!  I sure don’t want to pass that up – how about you?  I’ll get back with you later, I’m going to go hang out with a friend…

Happy Easter!!!

Question… While I am hanging out with a friend, answer this: What inspires you most about Jesus? What is the first thing that you want others to know about Jesus? You can leave your answers below.

I think the answers to both of those questions is Love for me. The way that he accepted everyone and loved all. Remarkable. First of all I would want anyone I meet to know that Jesus still has that same Love for them no matter what they have done or who they are.

    Good stuff man! Enjoyed it!

I think the Love aspect is huge – in importance and scope. It seems like the deeper I go with Jesus, the bigger the concept of love becomes. I am sure you have seen this one too – when I became a parent, I learned a whole new level of love that I did not really comprehend before (even though I thought I did). And that understanding gave me a little more insight into how God might love us.

I wonder what kind of difference it would make in the world if people began to understand the height and depth of love that God truly has for them???

Years ago, I spent some time going through the New Testament and writing out the titles and activities of Jesus given to us through Scripture. Insightful and inspirational. On occasion, I return to those jotted down notes and am thrilled all over again by His awesome character and presence in my life. I am amazed that He took notice of me long before I took notice of Him.

I appreciate how you went from zero (What should I write?) to sixty (What inspires you most about Jesus?) through your reflection and your post. You got me thinking about the One who matters in a way that was more than trite or routine.

      Thanks Tom!

I also like your idea of writing out the titles and activities. I am beginning to see a huge impact in the way I do things by taking the time to write things down. First, the process challenges me to think things through more thoroughly. Then, it allows me to clear my head and, along with being able to see what is written, I tend to be able to go deeper on individual topics. As well, the process gives me a resource to come back to at later times.

Maybe you should write on some the activities and titles that are the most insightful and inspirational to you…I would love to read about them.

I still find Joshua 1:9 pretty inspiring, especially during rough patches.

That is a great verse – a favorite of mine too!

What an incredible post! I think above all else, I am always blown away at how Jesus loved, and always got to the heart of the issue.

    Thanks for writing!

      Thanks Dustin!

I totally agree with you too – Jesus always spoke to the heart of the issue, the true needs of the people. I just finished going through some of the various healings that Jesus performed. Yes, he healed the physical needs; but, he also dealt with the things that the people needed even more. From forgiving sins (healing the inside first), to showing someone they are important and loved (in front of a huge crowd so that they would understand it too), to giving a physical touch that showed that they are worthy like everyone else (the leper that no one else would even come near).

Wow – that Jesus could be that personal with people; and, that he wants to be that personal with us.
