The #1 Way To Change Your Day

Author Steven Cribbs    Category Life     Tags

Do you remember that feeling deep inside? That moment when you were feeling unsure about that thing? That time when things weren’t quite going the way you had hoped for? Or, even that day that you were just discouraged?  And then…

You made my day!!

Then, from out of the blue, someone called you, wrote a note to you, or made it a point to say something to you that changed your whole outlook completely.  It just made your day, didn’t it?

What they brought to you was ENCOURAGEMENT! And, it sent your mind in a whole new, positive, vibrant, excited direction.

I love those moments! Don’t you?

I recently had a friend write an email to me that did just that. I wasn’t feeling down about the topic. I was just wondering if I was having any real impact and if I could really do something with it. Then, out of the blue, an email gave me a whole new set of excitement, energy, and determination. Thanks Rich!

This post isn’t so much about getting encouragement. This post is about our need to give encouragement…to be encouragement for someone else.

Your challenge for today:

  • Look for someone that needs to hear an encouraging word
  • Choose a specific thing that you can encourage that person in – the more specific the better
  • Pray for that person – not a generic prayer; engage God and pray intently for that person
  • Intentionally encounter that person and share your encouragement with them

The amazing thing? When we pray for others and encourage others, it not only changes their life, it also changes our life! Don’t believe me? Just try it!

Question:  What is something that encourages you?  What can you do today to encourage someone else?  You can leave a comment below.

So important! It is amazing to see how a few, simple, well-placed words (or gestures) can really make a difference in their day. Thanks Brandon – you have been encouraging me from the first days of my blog!

No problem! By the way, I don’t know if you have checked out my site since last week, but I completely redesigned it with a new theme and everything! I was able to incorporate your logo!

I’m really excited the logo was finally able to be put on the site!

I did see that a couple days ago – nice job. I’m glad I could contribute something to your site!

It encourages me when someone leaves a comment on my blog. I great, short book about the importance of encouragement is How Full is Your Bucket? I would highly recommend that everyone read it. I’m pretty sure it is less than 100 pages, but it offers some great wisdom and practical tips for encouraging others.

I too am encouraged when someone leaves a comment on my blog (thanks, by the way!!!). And thanks for the book recommendation – checking it out now.

I have a few letters from the past that I keep to remind me I have been appreciated. They are letters of encouragement a few folks wrote me after my tenure as their pastor ended. They included specific reasons that brightened a difficult change in my life.

I have a short list of letters I plan to write to guys on the coaching staff I’m a part of. I emailed our head coach yesterday thanking him for his positive leadership and noted four specific things he did that made us a better staff.

Thanks for the affirming an important message–encourage others–and urging positive and practical actions for us to take.

      Love this!

I’ve been a part of a men’s retreat weekend where letters from friends and family were a significant part of speaking into the men’s lives. Those letters were powerful. They would bring tears – out-right-blubbering – to those men. And, those letters are still cherished.

Noting specific things makes a big impact! Thanks for sharing your example!

Seeing others being successful is an encouragement to me.
A simple comment and compliment do wonders to people’s days.

    Great post bro!

I like that…”seeing others being successful”. It is so easy to be consumed with our own success and forget about that of others.
